You awaken smothered in wonderfully soft blankets. If you are lucky, there is a warm body next to you, but... those are becoming shorter and shorter in supply, aren't they?

It's Monday at Château Ambregris, and you have just arrived here. Whatever clothes you are wearing, whatever injuries you are sporting... They are once again accurate to how you were before this tale began. Whether this leaves you with any urgent matters to take care of or relieved of ailing you had contracted in the 'last' week, the gong of the numerous clocks chimes out indifferently to the hour. Gone is the urgent summons of the past two weeks, with no Witch to greet you.

Rise and shine, and face your 'first' day in your 'new' home! And though you may now think yourself quite familiar with it, maybe another look around wouldn't hurt?

TIME LOOP:

-Characters wake up with the clothes they had with them at their canon point, like in the intro log.
-The state of their bodies is exactly the same as it was on the intro log (for better or worse).
-Any items they accumulated last week are also reset (sorry you'll need to build up your weapon cache again), except items that were given out as event rewards. Please note that the item uses are not reset.

WEEKLY EFFECT

This week every character will have a spirit animal that follows them around like a familiar. The choice of animal is up to you (natural or supernatural), but it should represent them in some way. The animal is restricted in size to that of a large dog and is incorporeal, though it can interact with other spirit animals. As the animal is a representation of their heart and inner self, it might be better at expressing itself than it's owner.

Yes, this is basically daemons. This palace clearly needs more animals for emotional support!

[ Blade looks at G'raha, quiet as ever, if only to listen to the explanation he has to grant on the horrid scene he's speaking on.

It sounds almost similar in practice to being Marastruck, though he doesn't think it is the type to incur such terribly similar reactions from just being witnessed - it could, because there is a mental aspect to it. But, not all at once. ]

This can still persist among your people? Or did you find permanent resolution?

[ It's almost funny how quickly Cain's smile vanishes, and how his expression dips into a frown. ]

[ It's not hard to notice. But without his mirror, his odd eyes exist in a vacuum.

Cain's gaze flicks to a polaroid—he is there, inevitably—and he then hikes up his bangs. ]

This eye isn't mine. [ The red one. ] He gouged out my original eye and put his in there instead.

Have you ever thought about running away for good? Not that I'd really recommend it.

[ It's a choice he made and stood by, but it's impossible to say it was for the better. ]

I wake up to you. Of course, I noticed.

[ with his free hand, he covers the red eye. cain, without the red, is a golden knight. but that’s not all of cain.

his hand slides down to cup his cheek instead. ]

Why did he do that?

[ but yoru knows. the answer burns jealously in his stomach. belatedly: ]

[ Of course. A little smile tugs at his lips when he says that.

But Yoru's right. If they weren't deprived of their magic here, Cain would cover his other eye in the night, knowing it's an open connection between them.

He won't talk about that yet. ]

...I wish I knew. [ His expression grows serious in Yoru's palm. ] A whim, maybe.

[ He isn't so oblivious at this point, but some whys he won't see the answer to yet. ]

Of course it did. It was...extremely painful. [ ... ] He ruined my life.

Maybe… he saw you like how Jin sees you, a bright thing. A warm thing.

How did he ruin your life? I’m jealous, though, that even torn across worlds, he’s still with you and he still has you.

[ he smiles and he doesn’t, mouth twisting indecisively. ]

Sometimes I want to. It’s what I am, Cain. A Disaster Beast, and I can’t change. Being with you is - distracting so I don’t think about, but it’s there all the same. It’s always there.

[ Cain stares at Yoru. He stares at Yoru in the same way he stared at Owen, in the early days, when he was still trying to figure out what he said was a genuine threat and what was him playing around.

He'd had a feeling. He knows Owen well enough that now he sees him in other people, apparently. The thought is unfair to Yoru. But that he has answers and is jealous tells him he isn't wrong. ]

I had no choice but to use my magic when he attacked me and my men. And when they found out I was a wizard, I was stripped of my title and kicked out of the knights.

[ Everything he'd worked for, gone. ]

I don't know if I'd describe it that way.

[ Distracting, huh?

Oblivious in his weird way, Cain isn't sure how. He tilts his head, trying to read this particular expression of Yoru's. ]

What's a Disaster Beast? Can you...use magic?

[ cain might not describe it like that, but yoru sees it no other way.

he’s missing pieces about cain’s world: wizards, humans, magic. so the only thing he can say with certainty is: ]

But you would have. Let’s not pretend that you and your knights would have not gotten yourself into a situation where you would have needed magic to save them eventually. You would, do it, wouldn’t you? My brave Cain…

[ he pauses. ]

I’m sorry it happened when you weren’t ready.

[ if this mysterious man hadn’t done it, yoru thinks cain would have spent years and years trying to anticipate such a disaster. ]

Is the title what makes you a knight or is it your virtues?

A monster resurrected from man. I’m not a full one, just half. So powers, but no magic.

[ did he forget to tell cain this part? to be fair, he’d been distracted that night. ]

[ The way he speaks to him like this, it— It puts him on edge. On edge in a way he hasn't felt in a while, not since coming here. He can feel his heart pounding in his chest and his instinct itches for his sword.

My brave Cain. His shoulders rise and drop with his breath.

He's right, though. He would have always resorted to his magic to save lives, even if he shouldn't use it. The real stories in his first two polaroids end that way. ]

[ His answer comes quickly, without hesitation. It was Owen, too, who taught him this answer. ]

No societal construct that forbids me from using magic is more important than the lives I can save by using it.

[ These things are not mutually exclusive...

But he realizes this is probably more serious than he's treating it to be. So he calms his flirty attitude and looks at Yoru with an even gaze. ]

But what does that mean, though? I know... [ He doesn't finish that sentence, instead letting the way his eyes flick to his collar speak for him instead. ] But you're just Yoru to me. [ Or Jin, sometimes, less so lately. ] What kind of powers do you have?

[ when cain looks at his collar. ]

Jin died, then Yomi saved us by making us what we are. Our power has to do with how we died, so mine is a type of psychokinesis.

[ to have the life choked out of you without direct human touch. it’s almost cheating how easy it is.

and what’s normally a cheerful thought becomes tied to the knowledge that cain would hate to learn that about him. but he won’t lie. ]

… But I do want to be just Yoru to you.

[ then nothing has been ruined. but there are sides of this that he can’t possibly guess at. maybe his words will give cain something to think about. ]

[ he doesn’t like this shift in cain. this is… this feels like… tao staring through him to find jin.

like yoru’s the danger. ]

[ and it’s a cycle. if yoru is perceived as a danger, his defenses will go up, wild animal that he is. he lets go of cain completely, drawing his hands away from hand and cheek.]

'Twas a result of an aspect of our star—and universe—named "dynamis". Strong emotions create an impact on their environs, and in this instance, despair brought forth abominations.

The influence of dynamis is typically not quite so noticeable, however the flow of aether had been disrupted and that resulted in the strengthening of dynamis.

[ There's... a lot more to it, but he thinks that's a sufficient explanation. ]

We managed to defeat the source of such despair, you are correct.

That's exactly what i ended up doing, yes. Turned out pretty well, for a while. [Before they ruined it.]

[ He frowns at the dog. He's not exactly an animal person. Even if these things don't seem able to harm others, he still doesn't want it charging him. ]

I can see why. It's quite a standoffish thing, isn't it?

[ Hickey's octopus is unbothered, though. It swims through the air toward the other animal, and then its shape contorts, skin flickering through an array of colors—before settling on a shape and shade that match Angelo's dog.

Hickey, meanwhile, just watches the thing. It's kind of impressive, you've got to admit. ]
