WEEK FOUR

WEEK FOUR
25 Guests

The day is rung in by a myriad clocks tolling at once.
It's a familiar sound. It's the first time you're hearing it.

Once again, Monday is upon you, and once again you have just arrived at the castle to meet your new roommates. The last week is gone without a trace - nothing there to remind you of its existence. Injuries have been replaced with the old aches you may have felt before coming here, keepsakes have vanished and decorations have returned to their original state.

Formally, this is a clean slate and a fresh start. But that's not how it feels in your mind - your bodies may be rewound, but your hearts are steadily continuing, carrying the weight of a time that never was.

As always, the castle is new and old at once. Static, yet ever-changing. The curious minds among you may find it a good idea to explore a little.

TIME LOOP:
-Characters wake up with the clothes they had with them at their canon point, like in the intro log unless you wish to have them affected by the weekly effect as early as Monday.
-The state of their bodies is still exactly the same as it was on the intro log (for better or worse). This is independent of the weekly effect.
-Any items they accumulated last week are also reset (sorry you'll need to build up your weapon cache again), except items that were given out as event rewards. Please note that the item uses are not reset.

LOCATIONS UPDATED:
- garden, library, promenade
- aquarium β†’ wintering room
- photography studio β†’ tea room

WEEKLY EFFECT
This week the castle's whims have decided to put on a little fashion show! Characters may awaken to find themselves dressed in an outfit that they have once worn... or an outfit that they might have worn, in a future that has never come to pass. These clothes are not period-accurate and instead reflect the characters' own lives and thus worlds! It's time to shine in an outfit you absolutely love - or absolutely loathe!

The drawback is that these magical clothes also cannot be removed until sundown. Whatever outfit you woke up in? You're stuck in it! The only way to escape your dress-up fate is to damage the clothing, but if you do so you'll find yourself stuck naked until the beginning of the next day. The castle's strange properties do at least provide a little cloud of mist that will follow characters around for modesty reasons.

The new clothes will remain after the day of their appearance. They'll lose all strange properties and become garments that can simply be worn or discarded at will, like all other clothing.

(OOC: Counter proposals are open until Tuesday! Murder proposals are closed! Thank you all for your enthusiasm!)

[ There's something happening outside in the garden...

There's Cain to one end, sword in hand. It's been a little while since he's decided to carry a weapon with him. A hard frown sits on his lips and he stares, confused and sympathetic and upset all at once, at the person across from him.

It's not hard to see. They're outside, after all, and the noon sun shines bright overhead. This is quite an obvious meeting.

His sword points downward, not hostile, but open and receptive regardless.

He begins with a question: ]

Why?

[ At the other end, across the way from Cain, Richard stands ready, sword also drawn and at his side. He makes no move to advance on Cain, nor does he otherwise make indication of any start to whatever this inevitably turns into.

By contrast to Cain's frown, he seems relatively unbothered by the proceedings. Luckily, by his tone, he's treating this seriously, though whether that's enough remains to be seen. ]

I thought I made myself clear yesterday, did I not?

[ Sure, things pretty quickly derailed, but he thought it was pretty cut-and-dry, everyone else's moral quandries aside. ]

Maybe you did. But I'm still left wondering.

[ Cain turns aside and takes a step, his boots crunching on the gravel. Bad footing. Maybe inside was better.

He studies Richard's expression. Not displeased that he sees no frown like his, but trying to understand what it means. ]

Would you let another innocent take the fall for you?
ocenon: (71)

[personal profile] ocenon 2025-04-02 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
No. [ It's an immediate response, with no room for any doubt. ] I have no intention of allowing anyone else to shoulder the responsibility for my actions.

[ He shifts, a leg sliding backwards while his sword remains down, and at his side. ]

But if you are asking if I would change anything that happened, then the answer to that question is still no. Anything otherwise is an insult.

[ Cain dips his head slightly, happy to hear that. With that, he agrees wholeheartedly. He sort of imagines if he had to kill someone here, he'd give himself up immediately.

His brow twitches, faintly, at the second half of that statement. ]

An insult—to who? [ Another step, another crunch. ] Your master alone?

[personal profile] ocenon 2025-04-02 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
No. [ ... ] Well, yes, but not alone. She's already made it clear how she feels about it.

But if I were to say I would go back and do things differently, then it be a disservice to those who paid the price as a result. It's not something that can simply be wiped away with a wish or hope. Mere platitudes do not matter.

[ He's never been one for regrets in the first place. Isn't that what he's been doing since he was first summoned? Hell, isn't that what his wish on the Grail is all about, at the end of the day? ]

I do not expect you to understand it. As I have said before, the fault for everything lies with me. Any derision or hatred should be at me.

[ He's the one with the wish, after all. ]

[ Cain can understand, and as Richard speaks, he gets a better view of the shape of his knighthood. It's familiar, words he might've used himself in the past.

But not now. He isn't sure where they differ here, but he wants to know. ]

I'm not going to hate you or deride you.

[ Those aren't things he does.

Another step, and he turns to face him again. ]

If you acknowledge fault, then why do you not take responsibility for the blood on your hands? What point is there of fault to a knight if it holds no weight?

[ What is a knight, to him? How can his conscience, as a knight, be okay with this? Cain just sees a man walking away with a free wish and wonders how it fits into his justice. ]

How do you think I should take responsibility? Run myself through with my sword? Do you think that would satisfy the others?

[ Rhetorical. He knows it wouldn't. Though he doesn't know how this is the strongest reaction from someone who's name doesn't start with "Si." ]

The weight of my faults is on a scale that greatly dwarfs that of any number I could possibly achieve here. Perhaps it's the sheer relative nature of it means the weight adds little to the total, instead of it having none.

[ Here, he steps to the side. His sword, still at his side the whole time, finally lifts, putting itself between Richard and Cain, ready to move. ]

Besides, my loyalty above all is to Ayaka. If she sees me as I am and is willing to still call herself my Master, then that's all that matters to me.

[ He refuses to hesitate and let her get hurt again. Not again. ]

No.

[ He answers the rhetorical question anyway, quickly and immediately. That isn't the answer, but by the time he thinks of one he's satisfied with, the conversation moves forward.

He frowns. Why would anyone care about the scale of faults beyond this place, when this place is all that matters right now?

Richard moves, and so does Cain—he lifts his own sword, matching his stance. ]

I see. I thought that might be the case. [ Not out of derision, but from a place of camaraderie. That feeling is like breathing to him. ] I would do anything for my master too, so I understand.

But I have to ask— [ He waits for his time to move. Not yet. ] Where is the line of your loyalty? How far are you willing to go for her and still feel comfortable calling yourself a knight?
ocenon: (74)

[personal profile] ocenon 2025-04-03 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Despite himself, and maybe despite the situation, he quietly chuckles. Another step gets taken to the side. ]

Have I not made that line clear by now? If everyone here is an an enemy of hers, then you are all enemies of mine. If humanity itself turns against her, then I have no qualms in doing so in kind.

[ They may have just been rises to just to get Rider's Masters to see how Ayaka was, but it doesn’t make them any less true. ]

Perhaps that's the price for being good for nothing but war in life. But that's fine. If it comes down to it, I have no qualms with taking every last one of you down.

[ And in an instant, he jumps, moving with alacrity as he winds up and brings his sword down towards Cain's. ]

[ Cain reacts in a flash, lifting his sword above his head to block, the sound of metal and metal echoing harsh through the gardens. A terrifying sound, but nostalgic to Cain—and oh, how it excites him. Reflexively, he grins.

He'll quickly step aside, and his shortlived smile vanishes. ]

Then how does that make you any different from a despot's henchman?

[ He lunges forward, blade outstretched. ]

Does your knighthood start and stop with your master?
ocenon: (95)

[personal profile] ocenon 2025-04-04 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
[ He's pushed back, lifting his sword to meet the lunge. ]

You didn't read much of the works in the library last week, did you? You'd know that I am much more than a henchman, even if I haven't been king in well over 800 years.

[ Despot, though, fits him just fine. Richard makes no effort to repudiate that, nor does he seem interested in doing anything of the sort.

He shifts, deftly feinting to the side and moving to try and aim for Cain from the side. ]

[ YOU EXPECT HIM TO READ... YOU EXPECT THIS JOCK TO READ...

But no. Of course he hasn't read anything. He's been in the library once and it wasn't even to read. Perhaps he'll start checking out the books, he thinks to himself, tucking that away in a mental note, which will only sizzle to ash the moment Yoru's body does the same.

Still, the weight of metal on metal and the sun shining above them and the exertion feels good. Cain gets into his flow.

He blocks to the side and steps aside, light on his feet. He leans into his momentum to swipe at Richard's arm.

Eight hundred years. Hmm. ]

Have you always been this way?

[ What he means by that is up for interpretation. ]
