TRIAL II

Trial

At least this time you were given ample time to wreck your sleep schedule before the clocks gong at midnight (no apologies for such little sleep in the first place withstanding). The carnival looks just as you remember it, with the banquet and drinks refreshed. The spread is the same as before with two new additions: a platter of cute cupcakes that might remind you of someone, along with baozi of all types.

Like before, mind the pit in the middle and settle in to vote out the guilty party for the death of Siobhan "Shiv" Roy. With the benefit of experience, maybe this will be a little bit easier? With the mood weather lifted, there won't be any floods at trial at least.

(( OOC: Welcome to your first trial! You'll have 7 hours (until 8 PM EDT/5 PM PDT) to vote one (1) person guilty of murder. As this is scapegoat style, a correct vote is not necessary. Please remember to vote unless otherwise discussed with the mods, as that is our AC for this game ))

It may have been to lure Miss Siobhan out.

library investigation part ii

Blade is indeed correct—I spent my own investigation focusing on the door to the banquet hall. The doors were badly burnt and chunks were absent near the middle. I examined the pattern of the marks the flames left behind, and the doors were more heavily burnt towards the middle, centering around the door handles and sides of the doors. The wood was split, cracks lining across the door, but 'twas impossible to discern the trajectory of those cracks. Additionally, I was unable to determine what the more detailed damage originated from—the fire, or those who were trapped inside rightfully hitting the door.

[ He sighs, crossing his arms. ]

Revisiting those pieces missing from the door... one of the door handles was missing, seemingly knocked out of its place as the wood was splintered and curved outward. Any other damage was difficult for me to find given the state of the door, but that was the most notable by far.

Now, last but certainly not least, were the obstacles on the floor. I believe they had to be moved to allow those who were in the library to exit, but if anyone would like to provide more testimony to that fact, I would be glad to hear it. As for what those objects were, I found cast iron pots and pans that had been haphazardly stacked, a butcher's block on wheels, an upended box of produce and I noticed that a rolling pin had escaped as well. Most of these items had been a tad scorched.

Chunks and splinters of wood had been scattered outward from the door as well.

Underneath the tables in the banquet hall, I also found that door handle. 'Twas subject to less fire damage than the door itself, but saw a similar amount of damage as the assortment of items I found. I should also like to mention that the curved handle had some slight pitting in the metal. This pitting was not consistent with an impossibly strong grip.

Finally, I spotted that the fireplace located in the banquet hall was missing one of its pokers.

The scratches could have come from the hedge maze as well, but if she did fight back we may need to check everyone's arms.

I see. Should we need it, it wouldn't hurt to ask someone more experienced to assess those wounds.

[ Because it won't be her doing the checking on that, that's for sure. ]

Lure her out...

[ well given that she hadn't been dead for very long— ]

Perhaps, but what would they be using as bait, I wonder.

Just feels excessive. There are other ways to do it.

Someone inexperienced may think that's a fast way to kill.

[Which it isn't, apparently. It's rather unpleasant. With some luck, Shiv fell unconscious quick]

[ (................

You're realizing how much you sucked at doing this whole explanation thing last time. The level of detail she's giving is helpful. Yours was, what. Bare bones? You guess that's the difference between timeloop gaps. Right? That's probably it.

You also aren't smart enough to work anything out. You know this. However!) ]

I guess she's the one who ran through them in the first place?

[ Since, going by Urianger's account, her hair had leaves in it. ]

I considered that possibility. I find it likely given the blood smear on the fountain and the fact that her hair and shoulders were wet. If she and her attacker fought, she may have been pushed into the fountain.

I fear that may have been the case, yes.

Or, they were so determined to keep their victim in that whoever else may have been trapped within was of no import.
