Trial

At least this time you were given ample time to wreck your sleep schedule before the clocks gong at midnight (no apologies for such little sleep in the first place withstanding). The carnival looks just as you remember it, with the banquet and drinks refreshed. The spread is the same as before with two new additions: a platter of cute cupcakes that might remind you of someone, along with baozi of all types.

Like before, mind the pit in the middle and settle in to vote out the guilty party for the death of Siobhan "Shiv" Roy. With the benefit of experience, maybe this will be a little bit easier? With the mood weather lifted, there won't be any floods at trial at least.

However, whatever happened whether it was a set or not, would have needed to happen quickly given the state of her body and the weather. It was snowing outside when she was found and her body was both wet had not gotten stiff...

If she was the attacker here then whoever "defended us" certainly had an interesting sense of priorities.

That's why I think the fire wasn't planned. Just used, accidental or otherwise.

There are those who don't trust anyone here. Plus, if we're talking about the mood weather stuff, if you're basic - [ a little smile. ] - sorry, I meant if you're normal, you'd have to be quite upset to produce lightning, I'd think. And... there are people out there, who become a different person entirely...

Following that logic, the lightning strike from that extreme of a mood could be the source of what started the fire, correct? It didn't seem like there was any other clear source of the fire otherwise.

A byproduct of things going wrong.

There was also the broken lantern on the garden landing. A red herring?

If you were wanting to get away with a murder of a person or even multiple, it would make sense to provide some sort of evidence that could lead people away from the truth.

However, we shouldn't rule it out completely.

That may simply have been used to see. The gardens were quite dark when we woke up.

Then why drop it?

Maybe it was an accident.

If whoever was carrying it was being pursued, it may have been the result of that.

So like, maybe they threw it at them and tried to use the darkness to their advantage?

That does puzzle me, though. Why would the lantern be on the landing and the trail of glass going down the stairs into the garden?

Does the glass match the lantern?

So...was it thrown? Used? And then someone picked it up after it was broken?

Was the lantern...lit when it was broken?

I dunno... But if I'm picturing this right, then...the lantern got broken somehow, then whoever's holding it went up the stairs before dropping it.

The lantern was probably to see in the dark, but what broke it then? There wasn't like any weird projectiles around there, right? I think someone would've mentioned it by now.

That's the part I found the most odd-- there was nothing around the lantern. No blood, no signs of a struggle, nothing. All of the disturbance was to the gravel path in the gardens themselves.

Are there any dents or damages to the parts of the lantern that aren't the glass?

Wouldn't one of the rocks work? It was mentioned there were plenty displaced in the area.

A good rock could do the trick.

But how did it break? Did it explode from the heat or something? It can't be that badly made.

They'd need light to see outside, so that's what I was thinking. The glass was on the bottom steps, and the lantern was higher up. I guess if it was windy, the glass could've blown towards the stairs, but that's kinda stretching maybe...
