Your early morning begins with the infernal but familiar chime of dozens of grandfather clocks crying out in unison. Or does it? Let's rewind a little!

For those of you on the first floor of the castle the morning may begin just a few seconds earlier and it may sound more like BOOM!! - and who doesn't enjoy the ominous rumble of an explosion as their wake-up call? At least nothing seems to be immediately on fire this time.

Whether it is the boom or the clocks that wake you, you'll find that it is just past 5am and another Friday is upon you. While this may fill you with a sense of trepidation, you might still enjoy taking a quick look out the window. Every single flowering plant in the garden is in full bloom today, despite not even getting to the point of budding during the rest of the week. You don't remember spotting cherry trees out there before, but there they are. There's plum and apple, too, seemingly new saplings you don't remember from last night crowding the palace windows. You can only hope that this is a good omen for all things to come.

[ Do the streaks looks like they were left by, say, someone dragging a body? Do they seem to be arranged like they're a trail or more like something bloody was wiped across the floor for idk other reasons? Like a fight or something.

And just to confirm: It doesn't seem like there's enough blood here to indicate that Sabo was beheaded in this room, right? ]

[The streaks do look long enough for something to have been dragged at some points, though they're very partial and smeared in places -- you could guess that they might be a trail, since there's some at the doorway between the banquet hall and the salon and there's also more of them further in the salon nearer to the gallery.

And no, there isn't enough blood here for a head severing. Just the small puddle under the chandelier itself.]

[ Interesting... How big are the blood splashes near the chandelier? And is there anything in the room that might've been used to reach up there? Hickey is wondering if maybe someone tossed the head and that's where the blood splashes came from... ]

[They're fairly small blood splashes.

The salon itself doesn't seem to have any specialized implements for the chandeliers, but there are some pokers for the fireplace nearby, and of course the chair that Ayaka just used.

There's varying ways to get a head up there.]

[ Looking up from the ground, does there appear to be anything else stashed up in the chandelier?

Otherwise, he'll check out the cabinets and chest and stuff where the salon's Goodies can be found (tobacco, alcohol, etc.). He's familiar with those, as he roots around in there a couple times a week for cigarette supplies. ]

[Nothing else is stashed in the chandelier! It is just bloody and hanging ominously now.

Rifling through the salon's stores tells Hickey that nobody's been through these since last night, at least.]

[ SALON REVEAL YOUR SECRETS TO ME!!!

Does any of the furniture look out of place? Did the grandfather clock do the murder?? ]

[None of the furniture seems to have been disturbed. The grandfather clock stares ominously, but not as ominously as the chandelier.

Would Hickey like to commune with the head also still staring at him from nearby?]

[ .....................oh yeah that's. pretty big evidence isn't it???

Okay fine he'll go inspect the head. He is NOT kissing it despite Peace manifesting from the graveyard... but he'll give it a general once-over, removing the hat. Anything jumping out on first glance? ]

[Probably the biggest thing is the red chains wrapping around and around the neck. Just, y'know. #justseveredheadthings]

[ Red chains... Red with BLOOD? Or is that just their normal color?

How big and heavy are the chains? Is he able to unwind them? ]

[If he looks closely enough, he'll see that it's a mix of both: the chains are a fresher red underneath the darkened, drying blood red.

The chains are about as wide as a fingertip, and the links are twice as long as the width. They're not too heavy and can be unwound if he's patient -- there's a couple layers on there, but it's not like Sabo has a giant neck or anything.]

[ Huh. How tightly wound are they? Hickey will try to completely remove them from the neck to get a sense of how long the chains are, as well as if there's anything going on with Sabo's neck underneath the chains. ]

[He'll probably want to be careful unwrapping these, because they're pretty much the only thing keeping the bloodstained white jabot on the neck.

That said, once fully unwound, the chain totals out to about 12 feet.

The neck underneath looks pretty terrible. It's a mess of extremely bruised and torn flesh and splintered bone.]

[ At least Sabo is fancy in death.

So the neck looks like it was torn rather than severed with a cutting implement? Are the bruises chain-shaped?

While he here's too, anything else unusual about the head? He's manhandling it pretty thoroughly now, hating every second of it. ]

[The neck does look more torn and ragged than you'd expect with some kind of cutting implement. The bruises look suspiciously square-shaped, though with what's left of the neck it's harder to see them clearly, and the chains were wrapped quite tightly.

There's nothing else unusual about the head. That said, he'll notice that Sabo's eyes are closed and his expression is generally grim but not frowning.]

[ Square-shaped... Roughly what size are the bruises and how many are there? Are they around the whole neck?

Hickey notes the expression but doesn't think much of it. How else is a severed head meant to look?? ]

[There's basically bruising all around the neck, though the more square-shaped ones could feasibly match the size of the chain's links.

Hickey how many severed heads have you seen.......]

[ Look you tend to see a lot of corpses in general when your crew be dying left and right...

But okay, that's all he can think to inspect about this head. He, uh, gently sets Sabo's noggin back down on the chair under the chandelier, unsure what else to do with him.

Then he's off to wash his hands. Yuck! ]

May our artist wash his hands for the full 20 seconds. I don't remember if they have germ theory in his time.]
