WEEK FOUR
WEEK FOUR
25 Guests
The day is rung in by a myriad clocks tolling at once.
It's a familiar sound. It's the first time you're hearing it.
Once again, Monday is upon you, and once again you have just arrived at the castle to meet your new roommates. The last week is gone without a trace - nothing there to remind you of its existence. Injuries have been replaced with the old aches you may have felt before coming here, keepsakes have vanished and decorations have returned to their original state.
Formally, this is a clean slate and a fresh start. But that's not how it feels in your mind - your bodies may be rewound, but your hearts are steadily continuing, carrying the weight of a time that never was.
As always, the castle is new and old at once. Static, yet ever-changing. The curious minds among you may find it a good idea to explore a little.
TIME LOOP:
-Characters wake up with the clothes they had with them at their canon point, like in the intro log unless you wish to have them affected by the weekly effect as early as Monday.
-The state of their bodies is still exactly the same as it was on the intro log (for better or worse). This is independent of the weekly effect.
-Any items they accumulated last week are also reset (sorry you'll need to build up your weapon cache again), except items that were given out as event rewards. Please note that the item uses are not reset.
LOCATIONS UPDATED:
- garden, library, promenade
- aquarium โ wintering room
- photography studio โ tea room

WEEKLY EFFECT
This week the castle's whims have decided to put on a little fashion show! Characters may awaken to find themselves dressed in an outfit that they have once worn... or an outfit that they might have worn, in a future that has never come to pass. These clothes are not period-accurate and instead reflect the characters' own lives and thus worlds! It's time to shine in an outfit you absolutely love - or absolutely loathe!
The drawback is that these magical clothes also cannot be removed until sundown. Whatever outfit you woke up in? You're stuck in it! The only way to escape your dress-up fate is to damage the clothing, but if you do so you'll find yourself stuck naked until the beginning of the next day. The castle's strange properties do at least provide a little cloud of mist that will follow characters around for modesty reasons.
The new clothes will remain after the day of their appearance. They'll lose all strange properties and become garments that can simply be worn or discarded at will, like all other clothing.

[The tone of her voice shifts, genuine anger creeping into her voice.]
What doesn't matter is telling people who think I deserved to get put down like a sick fucking barn animal. I don't wanna hear people who get to go home and cast magic spells or fight for the Holy fucking Grail tell me how pathetic the one thing I'd kill for is.
...I wouldn't have done it if it was something I could get anywhere else.

[ there really is no way of summing up this situation delicately, so she won't bother to try. Homura, of course, doesn't care. she has no vested, personal stake in this, despite what loose ties and sympathies she might share with some of those involved. ]
... But at least you know that much, Siobhan Roy. Miracles never come without cost. Magic is never given freely. A wish, offered like this, offered in the way that it so often is, is a poisoned trap. If you were willing to kill for it regardless, then let it be something both important and impossible enough to be worth trying for.

It has nothing to do with mitigating factors. [They say this plainly.] Nobody likes a victim that doesn't roll onto its belly like a puppy and beg for forgiveness and pity.

[ lack of delicacy or not, she was still trying to somewhat sidestep around outright saying that Shiv has not exactly made herself all that sympathetic due to her allergy to showing any form of softness or vulnerability, whether as a manipulation tactic or otherwise. ]
I suppose I'll leave my opinion at this: everyone involved made their choices. โWell. Not Siffrin, [ who is well within their right to and allowed to be angry, though Homura privately wonders what good it'll ultimately do, ] but everyone else. If they regret the outcome of them and the consequences that face them for it, then they had no business making those choices in the first place.
[ Chara is right though, in their observation that there is surprisingly little pushback against Richard and Ayaka. this isn't exactly what Homura would have expected either, when this finally came to light, but ... is it really something like her own pragmatism fueling this acceptance, or something else?
hmm. ]

if only she could figure out how to say it gently, and in a way that doesn't detract from the validity of his feelings. ]

The knife can't wiggle in appreciation but. It's fine. ]

A mitigating factor does just ultimately come down to how well you perform a sob story, yes. You can excuse any crime if you just dress it up pretty enough.
All I would point out is that Siobhan was the only one that faced any quote unquote "consequences" - and Andrew if you wanted to be particularly vindictive. [They don't really. Andrew's crime was being a fool and trusting in the good will of her fellow captives.] None of it means anything, but this charade about the folly of vengeance or who gets to claim to be a "victim" in this performance is just a little bit irritating to watch.
If they had any guts, [Referring mainly to Siffrin's friends...] they'd just say out-loud that the feelings of the dead don't matter if those feelings are inconvenient for the living.

Not that you weren't thinking the same thing, but.
You really do appreciate Chara's frankness, always, even if it garners ire.) ]

A lot of people like kicking puppies too. I don't think they would've been nicer if I cried and had my tail between my legs. I already deserve it for targeting an "innocent."
[The sarcastic bite feels a little less enthused.]
Is it fucked up that my biggest regret is not thinking of doing some murder mystery shit like writing Rich's name in blood? Maybe there'd be less heat on Siff that way.
cw for just offhanded joke about child abuse
I never counted. It stops being a factor once you've been to the edge of the universe and stepped over it.
[Whatever that means.]
People will hit you regardless - my experience is that they hit you less hard when you're cute or polite.
[They smile.]
Alas, we can't all be Andrew.

Years' ... at least over a decade's worth of experience being fourteen, before I stopped counting ... still only makes me fourteen, does it not?

Fucking downer that magic has just as many catches and ways to get fucked over as the place I come from that doesn't have any of it. But hey, I've made deals before. I can find something.

[ which ultimately she has no place commenting on, given... everything. (it is also, now that she thinks about it, something she has seen before. the relationship she glimpsed between Oriko Mikuni and Kirika Kure... hm.) so she'll just accept the segue in topic. ]
As for the last thing. I find that the rule of ... 'if it seems too good to be true, then it is' tends to apply both in mundane and magical contexts. Wishes, in my experience, certainly fall under that. Whatever awaits them at the end of their ... Holy Grail War? I imagine will be much the same.
[ deals. mmm. ]
Where I come from, it is called a contract. Most do not think about what that might mean, whether it is because they do not have the opportunity to, or because they do not think to. The terms are seemingly clear; the information the Incubator does not tell anyone unless specifically prompted and pressed, much more. They are, ultimately, not designed to be in the contractee's favor.
