EPILOGUE

Your stopped time has restarted. Whether you were in the grassy field or fighting for your life on the castle grounds, you'll suddenly find yourself in an untouched area of the gardens. Ish is back, and so are the items, and the dead.

You return to Chateau Ambregris with the certain knowledge that come Monday, you will greet a new week, in a home of your own choosing. No longer will the chime of the clocks hunt you down, no longer will the oppressive scent of roses haunt your senses, no longer will you be forced to watch the death of those you've come to love and hate.

Parting is such a bittersweet sorrow, isn't it?

Make merry one last time, in this castle of illusions. Ironically, your memories of this stolen time that never existed are the one thing that will truly remain to you.

🔮 Universal Communication will be possible, courtesy of Manba and Ish. Everyone who wants one will be given a small fox that can communicate with other foxes through voice and video; the foxes can talk and are fairly simple creatures, enjoy them and give them fried tofu once in a while.
🔮 Powers are on for the finale, but Ish will step in and yeet anyone who gets too out of hand back to their homeworld, so play nice! (or relatively nice. )

[ Oh, cool, exactly the person Siffrin wanted to find all alone in the middle of the hedge maze.

Junior isn't so different looking now than he did before, around the castle and at the carnibals. Huh. That's pretty interesting, too. Still bright. ]

Hi. How're you feeling?

[ Someone oughta ask. Might as well be a near-stranger. ]

[Junior tenses at the sound of Siffrin's voice. They'd never spent any time together, at least as far as their memories went back, but...well, he knew what he did, even if he didn't know for himself the nature of Siffrin and G'raha's relationship.]

Oh. Um.

[He steps back, uncertain, instead of answering the question.]

Sorry, did you want to be alone here? I can leave.

[siffriend]

No. It's okay. I don't mind sharing the space.

[ And, mindful of Junior's apprehension, Siffrin's taking a seat... a little ways away from the entrance of the center they'd come in from, far enough that it's clear there'd be no chance of foul play if Junior wanted to go that way. ]

I just wanted to check on you. It's not easy, being the center of attention.

[ He'd know, after all. Voluntold by Andrew some weeks ago and then acting alone on a stage the day after next. ]

...okay.

[He hesitates, but finally takes a seat, as well. He didn't fear being hurt, especially not now, not physically. It was everything else that was much more complicated.]

I'm just relieved that everyone is back.

[siffriend]

Yeah. Me too. Being dead was pretty boring, until everyone else started arriving. Quiet.

[ Which someone as... background-heavy as Siffrin prefers to be should like, but. They don't. ]

I like being around people more. Kinda remembered that, there.

[littlegentleman]

Me, too.

[Of course, he'd never been dead before, himself. He couldn't imagine what that had been like.]

I was always alone, before. Mostly, at least. [In every way that mattered. The scientists, the government agents, that was hardly having company.] It's been...intimidating, being around so many people. But I really...I liked it.

[siffriend]

[ It's why he clung to Hwylryn, Siffrin knows. That dragon... is intoxicating in his overflow of affection and care. Want of company and love of seeing others smile. Experiencing what it means to be human.

They almost fell for it, too. ]

What're you gonna do now? Not go back to being alone, I'm guessing.

[littlegentleman]

[He shakes his head at the question.]

A part of me still wonders...if that would be for the best. But still, my world is better off without me, so...I won't go back.

[He'd miss Michelle, and Anita, but they already felt like such a distant memory. And for the impact they'd had on his short life, he was certain the same could not be said for them. Without him, they would move on. The world would know peace, or so he hoped.]

Have you made a decision for yourself?

[siffriend]

[ ... Wow. What a familiar set of words, said not a few hours ago to someone else. Siffrin regards Junior quietly, then nods. ]

I have to go back. My world... is still in trouble, with the loops, [ public knowledge and all since the start of week two, ] so I have to break that before anything else.

[ (Even if, you think, it might be better if you stayed away. They'd... all forget you, in time.

It hurts regardless.) ]

... Even if I didn't have to though, I'd still want to. I miss my family members a lot. It'll be nice to see them again, even if it's again, and again, and again for a while after.

[littlegentleman]

[Junior frowns as he considers this. To want to go back, no matter what that meant. If it weren't for some of the people he'd met here, he might have been prepared to do the same.]

I think I understand.

[Even if it was...incredibly sad, in so many ways.]

Do...you think you'll be able to fix things?

[siffriend]

Yeah. I've got a few new ideas, thanks to talking to others here.

[ Some of them, they don't like.

But...

They'll keep them in mind, anyway. ]

As long as I've got a lead to follow, I've got something to do. And I've got plenty.

[ ... ]

After, um... if you'd like to visit Dormont, it's a nice place. The people are kind and welcoming to everyone, they're the honest sort that'll take whatever answer you give them too. So they won't pry.

[ (All Vaugardians are like that, really.
