You're wrapped in a soothing, all-encompassing darkness.

Well, perhaps not perfectly all-encompassing -- you can see some slivers of light here and there, just enough to realize that your current space is literally wrapped in something, and that you are a highly customized burrito at the mercy of an entirely too fluffy bed and set of blankets. Moreover: you are definitely not alone.

Depending upon the contents of your bed (two of you, waking up dressed exactly in what you wore last you remember back where each of you came from, in the exact same state as those last moments no matter how illogical or disjointed), it may not be comfortable or feasible to stay cocooned up for much longer. There's a low, muted GONG, GONGG coming from not far away, your bed creaks like a beleaguered ship in an unannounced storm, and it is joined by even more noises of movement beyond the bed canopy as you try to take stock of where you are.

Eventually, you either fall out of bed or drag yourself into this world: your new and strangely crowded personal rooms, the clock insistently sounding out the hour, and the halls and heraldry of the venerable Château Ambregris -- a lavishly decorated and fully furnished version of a more-or-less authentic French castle (assuming you know what France or a castle are).

Left to your own devices for the moment, you may find it helpful to explore the castle for your own purposes, check out the suspicious statues and personalized plaques in the Promenade of Reflexion, or perhaps to try to get to the bottom of the mysterious and frankly alarming amount of bread piled up in front of the place settings in the Banquet Hall. (Were you thinking of escaping? Any attempts to leave the property will be met with no forward progress at all, treadmill style). There's just about every kind of loaf, roll, boule, baguette, croissant or even animal-shaped bread you can think of stacked in baskets. There's absolutely nothing else save for plain bread, but at least you won't starve.

Other than the sheer amount of information that has been collected on the lot of us? I fear I have not found anything else.

[ A few interesting names and skills, but not anything that could help them leave. ]

Hmm. The collected information meaneth this was no mere mistake. We must have been surveilled, which raiseth its own series of questions.

[How long were they being watched? And by whom?]

Indeed. When did the opportunity to gather than information arise?

[ He crosses his arms. ]

As you well know, I do not oft speak of my own age.

[ Which begs the question... how was it gathered? ]

Verily, and typically in private company when thou dost. 'Tis a detail only a scarce few should know.

[Which should narrow down the list of suspects... And yet Urianger frowns as he glances over the promenade with furrowed eyebrows.]

If it weren't for our strikingly varied cast, I would almost fear the work of an Ascian.

Likewise. That our friend isn’t here speaks to the fact that it likely isn’t their work.

[ He wouldn’t be surprised if there were more Ascians out there somewhere, but… ]

Which makes it all the more concerning, to be honest.

[Actually, yeah. Where is the Warrior of Light?]

Ascian machinations or no, I am almost surprised to not see him caught up in this as well.

[It doesn't feel like a proper mystery without him, clearly.]

To tell you the truth, I had looked for his plaque with the full expectation that he would have been taken along.

[ And he was disappointed not to see it. ]

It will be strange, navigating a strange circumstance like this without him.

[ But that is an adventure in and of itself... isn't it? A story to tell him when they both return, perhaps. ]

If we were surveilled as thoroughly as it doth appear, I cannot fathom why he would not have been chosen. Mayhap our host seeketh particular knowledge from us...?

[This is only going to get more confusing when Witch shows up, honestly.]

I think that could be plausible. Or mayhap our captor hesitated in seeing his capabilities.

[ He crosses his arms. ]

'Tis likely I am here because I am merely a footnote in his story. That does not explain your presence, however.

Thou speakest true if their intentions are nefarious in nature. But it would serve them well to not underestimate our own capabilities.

[He's hoping that there doesn't have to be any fighting, though. They've had more than their fair share of that lately.]

'Tis difficult to say. With any luck, they shall make themselves known and explain themselves.

We can only hope that their explanation is fruitful.

[ A pause. ]

Yes, let us see what else this castle hath to offer. It could almost be mistaken for Ishgardian make...

[Except there is no way this is actually Ishgard. For one thing, it's not eternal winter outside.]

Sparse in its decor. Though I may be convinced we were in the dwellings of one of the major families were it not so sunny inside the solarium.

[He hasn't actually been in one of the major family estates, but he's heard stories from the Warrior of Light.]

Verily, 'tis an entirely different clime that we have found ourselves in...which maketh it a very different locale in addition. I am eager to uncover its secrets.

[He can at least count on his curiosity to stave off his anxiety over all the unknown factors.]
