WEEK ONE

WEEK ONE
32 Guests

Maybe being swept away to a fancy castle isn't what you wanted (Hickey aside), but the fact of the matter is that you're stuck here, at least for now. Thankfully there's enough food even if hot chocolate for breakfast might be a bit rich for some palates. There's at least a stock of raw food in the kitchens, but your hapless kidnapper is a Witch, not a chef, so you'll have to perform your own, manual kitchen magic if the provided meals aren't to your liking.

Just try not to burn the place down before you get the chance to take your host at his word (that you'll be leaving in a week's time, certainly, trust).

If you do get the cabin fever immediately, the grounds are a beautiful reprieve from the great indoors -- and if nothing else, perhaps you can find time to get to know your fellow guests. The weather is gorgeous all week, cheerfully sunny, which lends something to the mood.

WEEKLY EFFECT
This week, characters will feel heightened emotions periodically. If they're very happy about something, it'll feel like the best thing in the world! If they'd usually brush off something mildly annoying, suddenly it'll grate on their nerves. This effect will last throughout the week until investigation and is completely optional.
[OOC: Welcome to Week 1! Despite the lack of any threatened murder (except in Witch's direction), there will be a case this week. We'll have a small optional event on Wednesday at 1PM EDT/10AM PDT, but it won't require real time threading and can be done over the course of the week. ]

[ During her re-tour of the castle, Clover pokes her head into the observatory. She's curious about the star charts, but her attempt to read them yesterday didn't work out. And now it looks like there's an opportunity to talk about them.

She walks in with a little more care than usual, trying not to make loud clacking noises with her heels. ]

Hey, I was wondering. Do you know how much of the stars are the same?

The same was what? Seen from the Earth Sphere?

[ It feels ridiculous to have to ask, but with all the profiles reading like they're from some silly TV serial, it's better to be safe than sorry. ]

I'm not entirely sure... These analogue maps are needlessly unwieldy.

[ He's so pissed off at this paper. ]

[ Oh, right. That's a thing about this place that she should keep in mind. How surreal. ]

Yeah, I'm an Earthling who has no idea how to read those maps. And here I thought nautical charts were a pain.

[ Once she says it, she winces at the memories they bring up. She internally decides on the spot to avoid those words together for now. ]

[ An Earthnoid, then. Angelo isn't sure if he should feel kinship for being from the same kind of planetary system or disdain for her as one of the elites. It... well, it really depends on the outcome of this conversation, doesn't it? ]

Seriously. We've got computers to navigate space for a reason. This is middle ages bullshit... and it doesn't seem to document any of the colonies either.

Ah, yeah, computers would make things waaaay easier! But looks like this place hates practically everything that clashes with its vibes. It's trying too hard to be aesthetβ€”

[ Imagine if they all had a phone right now. At least that's her thought until she finally registers the word "colonies". ]

β€”Uh, wait, colonies?
cleansheets: (21 anger)

[personal profile] cleansheets 2025-03-13 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
... yeah? Space colonies?

[ This whole place is medieval as hell, but surely...

... oh god. Is THIS why there are no colonies on the charts?? ]

Giant cans of metal in space?

[personal profile] fourtuity 2025-03-13 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That sounds like a good name for a band. She almost says that, but it does kinda sound like an actual question? ]

Um... You mean like a space station or something?
cleansheets: (47 anger)

[personal profile] cleansheets 2025-03-13 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oh, god. ]

Larger. Have you heard of O'Neill Cylinders? Cities in space, essentially.

[ Somehow people being from other worlds was easier to accept than someone being from pre-space-age Earth... ]
fourtuity: (did someone say exposition)

[personal profile] fourtuity 2025-03-13 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, now that sounds like a band name. [ Intrusive thoughts win this time. But she does find the whole space city thing interesting, so she won't leave it at that. ]

β€”I heard people talking 'bout expanding to the Moon soon? But I couldn't tell you the details of how. Cities, huh...?

[ She stares at the papers, wondering where they'd be. ]
cleansheets: (68 smile)

[personal profile] cleansheets 2025-03-13 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
The moon's settled as well, of course. There's a few major cities there.

[ War profiteer capital, for example!! ]

It's been nearing a century since the first space colonies became operational.

[ Angelo joins her in looking at the charts again and then points at a spot a bit behind the moon, on an adequate map. ]

That's where I'm from.
fourtuity: (avert ye eyes)

[personal profile] fourtuity 2025-03-13 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Dang, that's pretty amazing. You gotta be like...somehow from 2130 or further!

[ It's hard for her to imagine. Technology has definitely advanced since humans first went into space, but a city? There's someone surreal about the thought of skyscrapers on the moon. ]

Wild to think that it's that close and yet so far. Wanna write it in? [ If it's an omission, why not? ]
