WEEK ONE
WEEK ONE
32 Guests
Maybe being swept away to a fancy castle isn't what you wanted (Hickey aside), but the fact of the matter is that you're stuck here, at least for now. Thankfully there's enough food even if hot chocolate for breakfast might be a bit rich for some palates. There's at least a stock of raw food in the kitchens, but your hapless kidnapper is a Witch, not a chef, so you'll have to perform your own, manual kitchen magic if the provided meals aren't to your liking.
Just try not to burn the place down before you get the chance to take your host at his word (that you'll be leaving in a week's time, certainly, trust).
If you do get the cabin fever immediately, the grounds are a beautiful reprieve from the great indoors -- and if nothing else, perhaps you can find time to get to know your fellow guests. The weather is gorgeous all week, cheerfully sunny, which lends something to the mood.
WEEKLY EFFECT
This week, characters will feel heightened emotions periodically. If they're very happy about something, it'll feel like the best thing in the world! If they'd usually brush off something mildly annoying, suddenly it'll grate on their nerves. This effect will last throughout the week until investigation and is completely optional.

Nice one!
no subject
Almost got you.
( He was wondering if he could trip up a wizard with the phrasing :} evil trait )
no subject
You almost did!
[ Anyway since they're not beholden to the game now (this is a regular conversation), he'll take a swig. ]
I haven't been grounded for this long in a while. Feels kind weird, huh?
no subject
( sips!! )
You know? The sight of the stars, the feeling of the breeze... it's all so different now.
( Though, nature's character did shift a little after the latest Calamity... but that's not talk for a party. )
But it's interesting, too. It's different. I don't mind it - do you?
( Discomfiting and disorienting as it may be. )

I spent most of my life pretending to be human. I never really started flying seriously until a few years ago.
[ is it two or four... gives us answers coly... ]
Not too different than what I grew up with, you could say.
no subject
also i asked coly and they said twfour )
Were they going to hunt you down if they found out what you are?
no subject
No...
[ Hwylryn is a dragon, and he realizes he probably doesn't understand the nuances of human society. Central human society, at least. ]
It's not that bad, but it's still...complicated. My parents wanted me to lead a normal life, so my mom told me not to use magic outside of the house. That's all. I didn't have a teacher or anything, either.
no subject
( It's not that he doesn't get the idea of filial piety, but, )
Sounds to me like asking a fish not to swim. How did you stand it?
no subject
[ Looks at the water in the pool... Thinks of the river by his house. ]
I dunno. I didn't know anything else. I liked my friends and my parents and I didn't want to scare either of them.
no subject
They loved you, right? Shouldn't they have accepted you the way you are? When I was still little . . . well, I didn't think badly of any loved one that tried to kill me.
( mind, that was the north, but Still, )
So for something as small as a little magic, shouldn't they have tried to understand you? ... When you went so far to understand them, and their fears.

Cain studies that blank spot from where Hwylryn's voice comes, and he thinks for a second. Despite the human-like shape, the human speech, he hasn't forgotten that this is a dragon.
A wry little smile crosses his features. ]
That'd be nice. But things are a little more complicated in human society, especially in Central.
My parents love me and accept me the way I am. I think my friends knew, but they never said anything. I'm lucky, in that sense. [ He thinks of Arthur, his heart aches, but he moves on. ] But Central society isn't built to accept wizards. We're not allowed to hold certain kinds of posts—knighthood being one of them.
[ He thumps a fist to his chest— ] All I ever wanted was to be a knight, so I did what my parents told me.

He listens, and though this is all dense with politics and the sort of social compromise and tragedy that comes with living in a society - a totally foreign concept to a freewheeling spirit like him - he thinks he finally hits on the thing that makes all this make sense to him. )
Ah - is that what you love, then? Being a knight? More than anything?
( honing in on the wizard fetish, )
no subject
But anyway. Hwylryn's right, and a big, shit-eating grin crosses Cain's face. ]
Yeah. [ And despite the neutrality, his voice goes up a few decibels, too. ] Magic aside, I kept working on it. Worked on my swordsmanship, joined the knights, moved from page to apprentice, worked up the ranks, and before I knew it, I was knight captain.
[ He laughs. ]
I lost my post when they found out I was a wizard, though.
no subject
That last bit makes him sad though?? His face is a mystery to Cain, but at least it's apparent in his voice. This is such a productive baby... and yet he's been punished... and for what... )
Oh, no... That's so sad... Isn't Central run by a wizard? ( "The prince of Central is a wizard" telephone ) Why can't he reinstate you?
no subject
[ Maybe political stuff is too complicated for monsters??? Don't worry about it kitten <3 ]
He doesn't run the country, no, but he's next in line. He can't do anything now, but he's working on the groundwork.
[ ... ]
It's kind of complicated. It might not make much sense when you live away from societal constructs like this. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
no subject
He makes a sort of "hmmmm" sound, half in thought, half in... yeah, he clearly hasn't a clue about the nuances of this sort of thing, and it seems very far removed from Hwylryn's life in every way.
However, he thinks he does recognize Arthur's name, when Cain says it. )
You're right, but I guess I get the gist of it. Basically, he's working on it as fast as he can, so you'll get to be a knight again in a couple hundred years, right?
( Maybe even less. Feels like every century or so he pops by some human settlement and it feels totally different. )
That's not too bad. I'm glad you have a friend on the inside.
no subject
Inside or outside, it doesn't matter. We're all working together to make things better for everyone. Besides—
[ He stands a little taller, a little prouder. ]
I'm still a knight, title or no.
[ MMMMMMMMMMMMM WE LOVE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT ]
no subject
kyaaa, a shame that Cain can't tell Hwylryn's impressed!! Well, he might be able to in a second, because Hwylryn slips an arm around his shoulder and clinks his glass to his! )
Wo~www, such resolve. ( He takes a generous drink, like they're friends :) celebratin :) But he really does mean it - and admire it. ) It's rare to find someone so certain in themselves, even among wizards. How old were you again?
no subject
Cain senses the shift so he isn't too surprised to see him pop into view. He won't drink from his glass just yet. ]
Thanks! [ he's buzzin! ] I'm twenty-two!
no subject
Well, look at you. ( lil knight... with his lil tie... ) If this is how you are at 22, I'll have to wonder what you're like at 500.
( Honestly, it's a blessing he's only 22 - he wasn't larping as human for too long! A little bit of a late start, but not by too much, at least. )
no subject
His face falls a little at that. Suddenly, he gets very intense flashbacks of being babied by Figaro and Bradley and Rustica and Faust— ]
Sure, but...I'm still an adult.
[ Now he sips! And he throws a look at Hwylryn. This close, the dragon can probably see that glimmer of red peeking through his bangs. ]
I don't wanna say I'm not going to change in 500 years, but I've got goals that might take me 500 years to accomplish. And I don't plan on giving up on them.
