At least this time you were given ample time to wreck your sleep schedule before the clocks gong at midnight (no apologies for such little sleep in the first place withstanding). The carnival looks just as you remember it, with the banquet and drinks refreshed. The spread is the same as before with two new additions: a platter of cute cupcakes that might remind you of someone, along with baozi of all types.

Like before, mind the pit in the middle and settle in to vote out the guilty party for the death of Siobhan "Shiv" Roy. With the benefit of experience, maybe this will be a little bit easier? With the mood weather lifted, there won't be any floods at trial at least.

I think that's part of the question. Whether she did or didn't, why was it opened?

Nothing was missing or disturbed there, if I remember correctly. But why else would you open a door? To go in. Maybe they simply had to go back because the people there had seen them before the spell took effect.

You think the culprit could be one of the people there.

[Andrew does a little listening. A lot of listening, actually, to the conversations that have been happening in lieu of narrowing things down.

She had been hoping that, if it was one of them, they might out themselves in the ensuing discussion, but Yoru has cut the corners here a little bit, at least.]

I don't know that I can agree to that plan.

Is it because you don't want to see the events of the last judgment repeat?

The solarium sits in the crucial pathway between the stairwell and the salon, and the front doors.

My guess is that, if in an attempt to escape, whoever it was may have temporarily decided to escape upstairs, but then changed their mind and went outside instead.

[ Since that's where the body was ultimately found.

I will gladly vouch for G'raha, Siffrin, and the lieutenant, as they have vouched for me.

To be frank, I'm not sure about anything here. Maybe it was her that opened it or maybe it was her killer. But... she had to get to the garden somehow, right? That's why I want to iron out the timeline...so we can figure out who got to what, and when.

Remind me. Does Shiv have any burns on her?

I think they mentioned scratches and bruises but...nothing about burns on her.

So she may have not been inside when the fire started. If the poker was used to barricade the doors...

Did Shiv play a role in organizing the library slumber party? What reasons did everyone have for choosing to spend the night there?

Was it thrown open in a search for Siobhan, I wonder? Our culprit could not spot her inside and as such moved on towards the gardens instead.

But then... why the library?

I have yet to puzzle that out. There was no reason to spare us and yet allow the library to burn.

I don't understand that either. If they were willing to kill Siobhan like that, then why not any of us who were probably sitting ducks?

[ or sleeping ducks, really. ]

'Tis strange indeed. Why spare us? Why chase, when it would have been much easier to attack those of us who were sound asleep?

This is a fairly sound idea. The simpler ideas might be the better ones to focus on if we're trying for the bigger picture.
