TRIAL IV

Trial

Another Saturday, but this Saturday is your last Saturday. If everything holds, if everything works out. After all you've been through, are you capable of being an optimist? The carnival calls regardless, furniture arranged around as they always are with banquet table and pit in the middle.

This week's new offerings are: a fluffy loaf of a certain type of rye bread, a hearty beef stew and an assortment of fresh pies with candied fruit and cream.

For the last time, find out who killed two of your own: G'raha Tia and Sariel.

(( OOC: Welcome to your first trial! You'll have 7 hours (until 8 PM EDT/5 PM PDT) to vote one (1) person guilty of murder. As this is scapegoat style, a correct vote is not necessary. Please remember to vote unless otherwise discussed with the mods, as that is our AC for this game ))

for today's evidence, the part of Akemi Homura will be played by Richard the Lionheart

[ hi, Homura's here, even if Mauyn is not! she's... got a bit of a haul with her. ]

I spent the night in the Wintering Room, in one of the igloos down by the southwest corner. Upon awakening, I found a bloodied detective's hat in front of the entrance. The snow all around was a bloody mess, with many deep and overlapping tracks, some of which were half smoothed over, as if something had been dragging.

Some of the ice blocks found at the southern end of the room had been moved overnight, ending up partly near the igloo I stayed in, and some closer to the opposite wall. They are somewhat bloodied, and it was near the ones by the western side of the room that I found a bloodied knife. There was blood blended in with the tracks that indicated them having been moved overnight... ah. Near one of the other igloos on the western side of the room, there are some scattered, damaged brown feathers. Also behind that igloo, there was some disturbed, blackened snow, with some gunpowder mixed into it.

Most of the blood ... led to, and was concentrated at the southern end of the room, including on the wall itself. There was a trap buried underneath the snow... spikes, hidden underneath, laid out in an area approximately 3 meters by 2.4 meters wide (conversion note: 10 feet by 8 feet in imperial do not @ me for conversion errors i'm doing this as fast as i can). It was... they were small, triangular, silver metal that I did not recognize from anywhere else in the castle, inlaid at the intersections of a wooden lattice comprised of four separate, neatly affixed panels, which I also did not recognize from elsewhere in the castle. It was all weighed down by five cloth bags, filled with metal and rocks, attached to the four corners and center of the frame. I suspect that this might have been the killer's own handiwork... and that this was a fairly methodically planned out act.

[ because seriously, how long does it take to prep all this?

pause. ]

Ah. Also, embedded into the wall, about... this high, [ she raises a hand to a little above where her head would be, ] was this: a lead bullet. It does match the kind you would use with the pistols you'd find in the Mars Room. It was angled upward. Though, I also found a bloodied sheath, sword still inside, at the other end of where the spikes were. The inside and the sword itself are still clean. The blood on both the knife mentioned earlier and the sheath are frozen onto them.

Also in the area around where the south wall is were black and white strands of hair ... I think that is everything?

[[ for visual reference of everything in relation to each other, please see convenient diagram. assume Homura has/will clarify placements and details as needed because Mauyn has been unexpectedly accosted by capitalism today and may be dipping in and out over the day but probably can't respond on time, wheeze, please understand. Homura has also brought in all evidence that can be brought, somehow, please just assume she enlisted the help of the Primroses after some sort of clown car magician's hat trick nonsense to bring the stuff out of the room in the first place. ]]

[ Blade's eyebrows are furrowing at this. ]

...That sounds extremely complex to set up.

[ Another sentiment for "what the hell" in regards to prep time, because uh. That sure is something. ]

[ homura is gone now. there is only richard. ]

It's quite advanced, isn't it? I can't imagine most people being able to set up such elaborate traps like that.

[ Hi Richard, nice to meet you. ]

I can't imagine, either.

And being proficient in whatever those are.

[ Like, what even is up with that? ]

...Wouldn't that require also luring someone out to them?

If it was angled upward, I wonder if it came from someone that was shorter than Sariel.

[ which is pretty much most of them because sariel was a fucking giant? ]

Someone wanted to weaken their opponent before fighting them, I think.

...I think it's possible. [ So he doesn't think it's far off the mark in terms of guesses. ] And at that height, it could have been aimed for a debilitating hit.

Sariel was shot in the forehead, wasn't he?

[ she knows that sariel's body is right there for her to confirm, but the mental image of that is replaced by something more horrific, from before she arrived in this place. her hands shake. ]

That's probably where they were aiming at.

He was.

[ Blade's words are spoken solemnly, but...he pauses to note her shaking hands; he's kept himself apparently calm. Hardly seeming to batting an eye. ]

It probably was. Then, they missed; completely off the mark.

[ Yet it was still "angled up", despite the general spot at indicated height. ]

Which maybe got Sariel to start running? Although I'm not sure when he would have started fighting back...

[ if his knuckles are bruised, then ayaka does wonder if cain's right about the idea of sariel fighting back is true. ]

It could have been incentive for the start. Especially if he moved suddenly.

[ And also, it was at the right moment at the time. ]

...Hard to know when he started, but maybe when he thought there was no choice.

[ Which, doesn't help, though he thinks it'd be particularly hard to tell. ]

The hat was probably Sariel's. It wasn't on his body in the garden, and he was still wearing that detective outfit.
