TRIAL IV
Trial
Another Saturday, but this Saturday is your last Saturday. If everything holds, if everything works out. After all you've been through, are you capable of being an optimist? The carnival calls regardless, furniture arranged around as they always are with banquet table and pit in the middle.
This week's new offerings are: a fluffy loaf of a certain type of rye bread, a hearty beef stew and an assortment of fresh pies with candied fruit and cream.
For the last time, find out who killed two of your own: G'raha Tia and Sariel.
(( OOC: Welcome to your first trial! You'll have 7 hours (until 8 PM EDT/5 PM PDT) to vote one (1) person guilty of murder. As this is scapegoat style, a correct vote is not necessary. Please remember to vote unless otherwise discussed with the mods, as that is our AC for this game ))

DISCUSS EVIDENCE
observatory evidence pt i (body)
I observed G’raha lying facedown in the center of the observatory, in a pool of his own blood. His face lay slightly turned, right side against the floor. The pool of blood was mostly centered around his head and shoulders; his hands were also up by his head, in that blood. Those hands had bruised palms, with fingers splayed, and remained like that. Likely because of stiffened muscles after death.
[ Rigor mortis, but even if he definitely can recognize such things, he doesn’t use the term. ]
His bruised hands weren’t defensive wounds.
I noticed a round hole in his head, positioned to the left side of his temple. I examined it closer to identify it as likely to be a gunshot wound - even if it was different from the ones I'd seen before. The wound was messier, and the hole was wider - I was able to glimpse splinters of bone at the entry site. His body also had the faint scent of gunpowder.
There were lacerations on his face, neck, and further down, lined up with the bloodied tears in his clothing. His back, bare arms and legs were covered in various wounds, with cuts, scrapes, and more lacerations. Some more deeper than the rest. This included a slightly messy wound on the right hand. It looked like something tore a bit through, and was removed. Those ‘various wounds’ appeared they were also made by something sharp that ripped through the flesh, and most of the cuts ran parallel to one another. The other cuts ran in different directions, with overlap.
I caught sight of a shallower wound on the upper left thigh and a deeper one on his right calf. They match similarity to the wound on the right hand, without it going all the way through.
Around G’raha’s abdomen, on the right side below his ribs, was a wound that differed to the one on his right hand in size. It was larger, deeper, and relatively clean even though it was a bit of a mess from something pierced into it. It did not have an exit wound.
There was also bruising on his right arm, going to down his elbow - all over the outside of it, without any particular shape. His left shoulder looked similar with the bruising spread out; no defined shape. It went across and over his shoulder blade.
I saw more bloody tears in the back, along with more blood pooling around his stomach, and legs. In general, the blood darkening along with discoloration of skin as blood settled in the lower body post-death [ Livor mortis, but he doesn't use that term, either. ] gave a sign that his body was out like this for several hours.
He had his crystal and suite key on him.
[ ...That was pleasant. ]

FUMOFFU!! (STRIP AND CLOTHING CHECK!)
[ she cannot believe that she's actually saying this in a neutral tone. ]
If you're uncomfortable, go talk to Ish about accommodations, I don't care. Lili will also be checking the clothing.
[ this is a double check! players can respond to the strip check normally and then mods will answer for the results of the clothing check. ]

catherd
[ this is ayaka's attempt at sounding authoritative. ]
We know that Sariel and G'raha were killed by one culprit. From the checks that we have done, we found out that the coat could fit Sousuke, Break, Angelo, Hwylryn, Dan Heng, Richard, Cain, Bradley, and Vanis. On top of that, when we checked the hair, we saw that it could possibly match Bradley, Vanis, Angelo and Break for the white hair, while the black hair could match Bradley, Vanis, and Dan Heng. And, we have the topic of Angelo's gun, which according to him, was taken while he slept. Three shots were fired from it.
[ she waits a couple seconds for that info to be absorbed, and then adds: ]
My personal theory is that we are looking for someone that was in the tea room. This would give them access to the hair and the gun both, plus give them an idea of what size of coat to use. Someone who has a decent idea on how to set traps, too.
[ ... ]
Also, according to Ish, this person's wishes apparently wouldn't hinder his plans nor would it prevent us from getting home. Whoever it is, you've already gotten it, whether or not you're caught. This part might not be important right now, but I just want to make sure everyone knows that, too.
[ and with that, she'll shuffle back to richard's side. ]

People could have changed clothing, but let's see if that was true here.
[ Blade will be doing a different kind of clothing check - no size comparisons, but he's looking for clothing damage, missing buttons, whathaveyou. ]

He speaks loud over everyone else. ]
The trial is going to proceed as normal, but there isn't going to be an execution tomorrow. The wishes have been granted. Our votes here are, in practice, meaningless. Lives have been taken, but we don't have to risk losing another innocent. Which means...
Culprit, if you could please come forward.
[ Cain draws the sword from his sheath and holds it to the side, tip of the blade pointed downward. ]
I understand people will be angry with you, and may want to retaliate against you—violently. But you have my blade as protection if you wish to say your piece.
[ His tension eases, and an earnest plead colors his expression. ]
Please. Offering closure and peace of mind to the friends and loved ones of the lives you've stolen is the least you can do for the rest of us.

A Proposal
She looks at Richard's hand on his sword, and the arguments breaking out. God, she's so tired. This is getting to be too much for her. She's going to be upset that she couldn't figure out who did this, but G'raha would not want them to be stuck on this forever.
They have to move forward, and someone has to step up. ]
Everyone, listen up! I have confirmed with Ish that voting is mandatory to end the carnival, and as we've all heard, there is no execution tomorrow. Nothing will happen directly because of the voting system, but given what happened to Sousuke, Chara and I on Wednesday, it's possible we may have more immediately pressing things to worry about.
Now. I did not kill Sariel or G'raha, nor did I have anything to do with their deaths – if, for some ungodly reason, I have been under suspicion. However, if we need someone to vote for...
Cast your votes for me. I will not take it personally. If it is personal for some reason, frankly, I don't really care.

RESULTS 1/?
That sure was some end to trial, huh? But you did come to a conclusion after all, so here it is:
For the deaths of G'raha Tia and Sariel you voted...Angelo. And I'm sorry to say, he was innocent.
There were other votes for: Bradley, Hamel, Hwylryn, Junior, and Vanis.
no subject
once ish is done counting and announcing the votes, he opens his mouth to say something else and is promptly cut off. or maybe shocked is more like it, since the pit in the middle starts glowing, as bright as a sun. the light coalesces into the figure of a woman, with flowing red hair in a pristine white dress.

1/2 RESULTS (Culprit...s?!)
There is something about Hwylryn that shifts the moment Junior is named as culprit. He has been, since Tuesday, something too weak to walk under the weight of his own grief - until, finally, he couldn't. He's laid down for much of his time. He's sobbed; he's near about given up. And much of this was genuine.
But all of this seems to disappear into the breeze of the warm winds of these endless, rolling plains. He raises himself up, his long hair whipping about him like a tempest, and with striking alacrity he takes up Junior, and he holds him close against his chest, in his arms, and holds him firmly. Protectively.
He exhales soft. Ah, well. )
... Don't be upset with Junior. If you have anyone to take to task, it should be me.
